Eligibility

Applicants Must

  • Have completed formal government-recognized post-graduate residency training in Emergency Medicine.
  • Be registered with their respective licensing board with an active and unencumbered license to practice as an Emergency Medicine specialist.
The IBEM Board of Directors representative for each eligible country will be charged with the responsibility of verifying the applicant’s credentials.

Being certified as an IBEM Diplomate does not confer a legal right to work in included countries. IBEM respects the sovereignty of nations and emphasizes that the legality and governance of clinical practice is, and always will be, within the purview of the laws of the individual nations.

Start Your Journey Toward IBEM Certification

Complete the application form

After creating your IBEM candidate account, complete your online application form by providing accurate and complete information.

Confirmation of Eligibility

The IBEM review board will review the application for eligibility before progression.

Certifying Exam

Eligible candidates must pass an online multiple choice format examination. This MCQ style examination consists of 250 questions which will assess the core knowledge of emergency medicine, and will be proctored in real-time. Candidates may sit this virtual exam from anywhere in the world at anytime.

Submit Supporting Evidence

After successful completion of the written certification examination, the candidate must submit a portfolio (maximum 5 pages) of evidence with brief descriptions of their involvement in at least 5 of the 10 Zones of Growth.

The IBEM Board of Directors reserves the right to strip Diplomates of their certification at any future date should the Diplomate be found to be in violation of the ethical codes of the practice of Emergency Medicine, or found to have harmed the dignity and legacy of IBEM certification.

The Diplomate may file a formal appeal by providing any new evidence, but the final decision of the IBEM Board of Directors will be non-negotiable. IBEM reserves the right to modify the certification process at any time to optimize the recruitment talent of its Diplomates.
